Designed and developed Malwaland — Punjab's most trusted local home services marketplace — from scratch, as both the product owner and the Next.js developer behind it. The platform connects homeowners across Punjab with verified local service providers including electricians, plumbers, AC repair technicians, carpenters, painters, and 17+ other service categories across Ludhiana, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Bathinda, Mohali, and 12+ more cities and towns. Customers browse verified provider profiles, read genuine reviews, and connect instantly via WhatsApp — with zero commission or platform fees on either side. Providers can register for free and manage their own business profile, making Malwaland a true two-sided local services marketplace rather than a directory listing.

What problem needed solving?
Punjab homeowners had no reliable, centralised platform to find and directly contact verified local service professionals like electricians, plumbers, or AC technicians. Existing options either charged high commissions that got passed on to customers, lacked any real verification process, or were limited to metro cities, leaving smaller towns across Punjab with no digital option at all. The challenge was to build a scalable local services marketplace that covers both major cities and rural towns across Punjab, maintains trust through genuine provider verification, drives organic traffic through hyperlocal SEO for dozens of city-and-service combinations, and eliminates the middleman completely — making it free for both homeowners and providers to connect directly.
Solution
How was it built?
Built with Next.js 14 App Router for server-side rendering and SEO performance, with dynamically generated city and service landing pages targeting hyperlocal Punjab search queries like "electrician near me in Ludhiana" or "plumber Bathinda". Implemented a verified provider directory with WhatsApp deep-link integration so a homeowner can go from search result to direct conversation with a provider in one tap, with zero friction and no signup required. Built a provider self-registration portal so professionals can list themselves for free, a review and rating system to build trust, and a featured listings module to help top-rated providers stand out. Deployed on Vercel with full Open Graph metadata, JSON-LD structured data, and a dynamically generated sitemap covering every city-and-service combination — achieving strong local search visibility across 17+ Punjab cities and 17 service categories from day one of launch.

What did I own on this project?
Malwaland is my own product, built and shipped solo end-to-end — I owned the idea, the market research into how Punjab homeowners actually find local service providers today, the full Next.js architecture, the database design for providers, reviews, and categories, the dynamic city-and-service page generation system, the WhatsApp lead-integration flow, the provider self-registration portal, and the SEO and deployment setup on Vercel. Running it as my own product also meant making the business-model call to charge zero commission, which shaped almost every technical decision that followed — from how provider verification works to how aggressively the platform needed to grow through organic search rather than paid ads.
Technical Challenges
What broke, and how was it fixed?
The core engineering problem was generating genuinely useful landing pages across dozens of cities and 17+ service categories without either hitting build-time limits or producing thin, duplicate-feeling pages that Google would penalise. I built the city and service pages to assemble their content dynamically from real provider data (who's actually available in that city, for that service) rather than static templated text, which kept every page substantively different. Provider verification was the second challenge — with zero commission and free registration, the platform needed a moderation process that catches bad-faith listings without creating a bottleneck that discourages real providers from signing up. I also had to make sure the WhatsApp deep-link flow worked reliably across Android, iOS, and desktop browsers, since that's the entire lead-generation mechanism the platform runs on. Because this is a two-sided local marketplace, every design decision had to work for both the homeowner searching for help and the provider trying to get discovered — a platform that only optimises for one side stops being a real marketplace.
Results & Impact
What changed after launch?
Malwaland launched with 500+ verified providers and reached 10,000+ customers across 50+ cities and towns in Punjab, holding a 4.9/5 average rating across the platform. The hyperlocal SEO architecture — real per-city, per-service pages built into the platform from day one rather than bolted on later — gave the platform strong local search visibility immediately after launch, instead of the slow ramp-up most new marketplace sites see. Because the platform charges zero commission, provider sign-up growth has been driven entirely by word-of-mouth and organic search rather than paid acquisition, which is a strong early signal that the hyperlocal SEO strategy is doing real work.
Key Learnings
Programmatic SEO only holds up at genuine hyperlocal scale if the underlying data model is clean before the first page is generated — trying to retrofit "real" per-page content onto a templated structure after launch would have cost far more than designing for it up front. That upfront discipline is what separates a marketplace that actually ranks locally from one that just looks like it should.
